Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Founded in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the oldest universities in China. Through its century-long history, SJTU has nurtured a large number of outstanding statesmen, scholars, engineers, and business executives, including Jiang Zemin, the former President of PRC, Qian Xuesen, the ¡°Father of China's Aerospace Venture¡±, and An Wang, an early pioneer of the computer industry.

Economics development of SJTU

Today SJTU boasts more than twenty academic colleges with a population of almost 40,000 full-time students. While it has always enjoyed the highest reputation for its engineering programs, SJTU has recently made tremendous progresses in the fields of economics, finance and management. Three schools, the School of Economics and the School of Management in Antai College, and the newly-established Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, now host faculty members who have graduated from many world class programs such as Princeton University, Oxford University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Minnesota, University of Bonn, University of Tsukuba, etc. These faculty members have already had publications in top academic journals, such as American Economic Review and Econometrica. The short-term goal of SJTU is to build itself as one of the leading centers of modern economics education and research in Asia and the long-term goal is to make it an institution with global recognition.
